1890's Gambler's Box

This exquisite one-of-a-kind 1890's gambler's box set is complete and all original.  The walnut and brass box has a top shelf, custom built to house a beautifully engraved Remington derringer and bullets (of which 6 are present).  Under the shelf is a felt-lined storage space made to hold the owner's most prized possessions.  They are as follows:

1) An unopened deck of antique playing cards, wrapped in paper and string and sealed with wax.

2) A classic antique silver dice cup and the lid, which is adorned with 2 matching dice.

3) 5 beautiful yellow dice made of wood or bone/ivory.

4) A working sterling silver pocket watch (Tavannes, founded in 1891 /16 rubies) with an image of a woman's face inset.  This is a very early Tavannes.

5) An incredibly rare old watch fob made of silver heart/club/spade/diamond charms interspersed with miniature bone or ivory dice in the fob chain.

About The Remington Derringer:

This is a fabulous fully engraved Remington 95 Double Derringer, aka the Over-Under Derringer, which began production in 1888. Caliber .41 rimfire (6 bullets are in the set).  The 3 inch barrels are superimposed (over-under) and tip upwards for loading and extraction. It is a very early production firearm with just a three-digit serial number under one of the grips and under the barrels.  Blade front and notch rear sights, with REMINGTON ARMS CO. / ILION, N.Y." on the top rib.  Matching serial numbers are present on the lower barrel and the left side of the frame beneath the grip.  The barrels and frame show 100% of the period scroll engraving, which is extremely visible, crisp and correct.  No spotting, no rust.  The grips are a hard rubber in excellent condition.   The entire piece is in excellent condition, with all the original nickel finish.  Wonderful patina.

This was certainly the gun of a gentleman and is highly engraved with vining leaves and beautiful embellishments. This model derringer was a gun of choice for gamblers and others in need of the easily concealed, close combat personal protection that this model offered.  This gun has no scratches and is in incredibly clean and solid condition.

About The Pocket Watch:

In 1891 a young, talented master watchmaker, Henri-Frédéric Sandoz, founded the Tavannes Watch Company in a small Swiss village, Tavannes, in the Jura mountains.

He and his partners, who were rich fabric merchants, soon opened markets around the world, notably in Canada, Russia, United States, and the Far East.

About The Watch Fob:

This incredible watch fob is a work of art and a true gambler's antique piece.  Measuring 14 3/4inches from buttonhole end to watch clip, this sterling silver fob is a gambler's delight.  There are 3 miniature dice of yellowed bone or ivory between which are sterling card suits (the silver suits and the dice are each 3/8 inches long).  14 beautifully made spades, diamonds clubs and hearts are linked together and attached to the watch.

About The Playing Card Deck:

What a find!  This antique deck of playing cards is an absolutely pristine deck, still sealed in the wax paper and string.  Through the paper, one can see the image of a man dressed as royalty with a golden crown on his head and the last card in the deck shows as having one single black spade.

The deck is 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches and is 3/4 inches thick.  A perfectly preserved mystery that makes one want to see the rest of the deck!

About The Dice and Dice Cup:

Five 1/2 inch dice are held in a very nicely made oval brass cup with silver ends and a painted black middle.  The silver is nicely tarnished and the interior has a lovely patina.  The cup is 3 inches high and 2 inches x 1 inch wide.  The lid has a unique decoration of 2 dice that match the 5 inside the cup, inset.  They are showing a throw of 4 and 3, respectively.
