of these coins has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation as
MINT STATE 70 (Perfect). NGC Certified Gold provides you with

coins. NGC provides an accurate indentifying description for every certified
gold coin, including the coin’s metal content and an expert assessment of its
state of preservation. MS-70 is the highest grade possible.

and FIRST STRIKE certifications.
Both designations are reserved for coins minted during their first month of
release. The term EARLY RELEASE replaced FIRST STRIKE in 2007.

The Gold Buffalo coin series was created to compete in a global market with the 24k Krugerrand, Canadian Gold Maple Leaf and Chinese Gold Panda. Although all Gold Buffalo coins are struck at the West Point Mint, only Uncirculated Gold Buffalos and Gold Buffalo Proofs carry the "W" mint mark. Gold Buffalo coins were first minted in 2006 as $50 pieces. They have been issued each year since, including in 2011. In 2008, the US Mint issued the only fractional series of Gold Buffalo Coins ($50, $25, $10, $5). By Act of Congress in 2005, the gold used in Gold Buffalo coins may only be minted from newly mined sources within the United States. The weight, content, and purity of each coin is guaranteed by the United States Government. Gold Buffalos are made of 24k (.9999) gold—also known as "fine gold"—which is 99.99% pure. This set is 6 ounces of 24 karat pure, fine gold -- over 1/3 of a pound of gold!
There are EXTREMELY few sets of the 2008 Uncirculated Gold Buffalo Coins in existence worldwide.
$50 Uncirculated Gold Buffalo Mintages
The 2008 year of issuance was the lowest mintage. In that year, there were only 9,074 $50 coins minted. As any COMPLETE SET of $50 Gold Buffalo Coins (one from each year of issuance) must have one of each year, logically, there can not be more than that number of sets in existence. It is a fact that fewer than 20% of coins sent to be graded reach the MS-70 classification standards. This limits the maximum number of sets with the designation of "Perfect" to not more than 1,815 complete, perfect sets of $50 Gold Buffalo Coins (2006 - 2011) worldwide. Now factor in the fact that many of these 2008 Gold Buffalo $50 coins that are sold as single coins and will never be placed into sets, limiting even further the number of sets in existence. Additionally, 4 of these coins were minted in the first strike of each year's mintage, adding to the exclusivity of this particular collection.
