Item #: K400 /
Alfred Williams, Sheffield, England - Deer Leg Dirk This is a beautiful antique dirk in the style of a smaller Bowie - made of the leg and hoof of a small deer. Alfred Williams was a very well-known maker whose knives were imported to the United States between 1890 and 1918. The stamp "England" in the maker mark places the earliest possible manufacture date as 1892. This knife bears the Williams mark, but does not have the "EBRO" mark of the company that would import Williams knives at a later date. The stamp is "ALFRED WILLIAMS / SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND". The dirk features an elegantly curved bolster and ridged German Silver end cap on the handle. Most of the hair is missing, otherwise the knife is undamaged and has retained its sharpness. The piece has been in our collection for many years, when it was purchased from another collector. Overall length: 11 3/4 inches
Blade length: 6 inches
Guard: 2 3/4 inches
Handle: 5 5/8 inches
long
Maker Markings: ALFRED
WILLIAMS / SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND
