Item #CW415 / $1,800.
Civil War Era 3-Tined Forks (Matching Set of 5) This is a wonderfully scarce collection of 5 matching Civil War Era forks, made in Sheffield, England for export to the United States between 1850 and 1865. They are quite heavy and well-made and are in good condition. They have NOT been cleaned and have some grime and patina built up on the metal. Each fork weighs 1.3 ounces and measure 7 inches long. The 3 tines are 2 inches long and quite sharp. The complete metal portion of each fork is 4 inches long and stamped STEEL on the back. These are a set, therefore they would have most not seen a battlefield. However, as soldiers were expected to supply their own cutlery, many took pieces such as these from their homes with them on campaigns. As is expected with forks of this vintage, small-diameter metal pins are used to attach the handles. The set was acquired from an estate in Virginia.
