Colt Navy Model 1851 About This Historic Firearm:
The 4th Model Navy Colt's overall length is 14" with a 7 1/2 octagonal barrel and features a large rounded brass trigger guard and back strap. It was first manufactured in 1850 and was kept in production until 1873. Weighing 2 pounds, 10 ounces, it feels well balanced in the hand and shows like nobody's business! Records detailing official and open market purchases show about 35,000 Colt revolvers being purchased by both the Army and Navy during the Civil War. The Army purchased 20,000 of that number. The contract models are marked US or NAVY. However; the 4th Model Navy was immensely popular during that conflict and many additional thousands were purchased by the individual states or for private usage. It is one of the most popular guns in the arms collecting field. 1863 Colt Navy 4th Model 1851 / Item #C1851 / $3,800.
