Item #B820 / $4,200.
Very Early G.S. Garcia #6 Bit:
The bit measures 6" wide by 7 & 1/2" long. There is copper wrapping attached to the spade on each side. The rolling mouth piece is striated in a straight pattern within a slide that measures 1 & 1/4" long by 3/4" wide. The spade piece is 2 and 1/4" in length by 1 and 1/2" at the widest.
The bit is hand-forged and hand engraved, an early stock bit in coin silver with a loose jaw with the original chain. The original rein chains are still attached as well, matching the catalog illustration of this bit in the first G. S. Garcia Catalog - in 1897. The maker's mark is authentic and period correct. The mark is present on the inside of both cheeks and reads: G. S. GARCIA / ELKO NEV. -- The inverted or 'Dutch' N is evident, dating the bit to pre-1910.
The "ELKO, NEV" mark on the inside of the left cheek is stamped upside down, giving the piece even greater uniqueness. Unquestionably G.S. Garcia and highly collectible. G. S. Garcia #6 Early Silver California Bit / Item #B820 / $4,200. Click Here To Send Us An E-mail About This Bit! |
