# 10 Very Early G. S. Garcia Spurs with Leathers
The left inside heel band of the right spur is stamped G. S. GARCIA and the right inside heel band of the left spur is stamped ELKO, NEV (with the Dutch - or inverted - N), shown to have been used prior to 1910. The shank is striped with silver bands. This pair of G. S.
Garcia / Elko, Nevada silver inlaid spurs were very likely sent to the North &
Judd factory for repairs. G. S. Garcia items were When the owner desired to
continue the spurs' functionality, the
spurs were converted from stationary to swinging buttons, the rowels were
exchanged with North & Judd 3/4" 12-Point Nickel
Rowels and the shanks were
been re-pinged, without rowel pin covers. The venerable two-piece basket
stamped leathers feature domed, scalloped silver conchos and North & Judd
buckles, all from the 1920's, suggesting the era of the North & Judd repairs. A woodcut picture of the spurs are shown on page 107 of an early G. S. Garcia catalog (pictured above) with the following description: "G. S. GARCIA / ELKO, NEVADA HAND-MADE SPURS No. 10. Silver inlaid. $10.00. Any of these spurs sent postpaid by registered mail upon receipt of the catalogue price"
Each of these spurs features a series of three silver inlaid boxes, engraved with a repeating floral leaf pattern on the outside; a mirror of the pattern used on the #6 G. S. early bits. The leathers are original; stamped in a floral pattern. The silver conchos measure 2 inches in diameter. Approximately 1/2 inch of the buckling tip of the right leathers is gone . The original double heel chains are present. These G. S. Garcia, Elko, Nev. #10 Spurs are hand-forged and hand inlaid with silver, as was the practice of the time. A true piece of Western spur history. Unquestionably early and extremely collectible.
