Item #CH390 / $2,100.
Gus Goldberg Chaps in Exquisite Condition... Woolies!
One of the best pair of chaps we've seen. They are in very good condition - the leather is supple and the wool is adhering to the leather well and remains thick and luxuriant. The wear places are as they should be, adding interest and character to the piece. The engraving of the belt is exquisite, with a personalization, a custom order for the wearer - a letter "J" engraved at either side of the lace. There is wear and tear to the lining at the top. They have pockets. The chaps measure 37 inches from top to bottom. About The Maker: Gus Goldberg worked for G. S. Garcia in Elko, Nevada before opening his own shop in Winnemucca until 1916, when he moved to Sacramento. In Dan Hutchins book on Saddle Makers it states "Gus Goldberg worked for G. S. Garcia in Elko, Nevada sometime between 1894 and 1909. M. B. Staunton started making saddles in Winnemucca, Nevada in 1882. Goldberg and Staunton went into partnership around 1908 that lasted until 1916. Goldberg then moved to Sacramento, California." It is our opinion and that of other collectors that this mark is rarer than G. S. Garcia or Visalia. Goldberg & Co. Woolly Chaps/ Item #CH390 / $2,100. Click Here To E-mail Us About These Chaps! |
