New York in 1940.  This book is in excellent condition and is very unique and rare.  The dust jacket is present (chipped) in a protective plastic cover.  Octavo bound.  There are no rips, tears, or creased pages.  No markings other than those made by the authors.  242 pages.

This is the definitive work on the history of American cattle brands.  Devoted to the meaning of brands, their origins and traditions, and the stories behind them.  The authors tell the many stories behind the symbols and detail the processes of branding, ear-marking and the tricky methods of cattle rustlers past and present.  This is one of the best work on cattle brands with an emphasis on the Old West.  Additionally, the authors recount first-hand  stories and anecdotes about famous and infamous figures as relate to the subject.  Details the law of the open range.  Extremely hard to find in this condition and signed by both authors.
