THE MASTER BEDROOM

DESCRIPTION AND PHOTOGRAPHS

The master bedroom is a jewel.  It has the luxurious feel of a private room that is both light and open to the views of the mountain jungle in which it is situated.  Louvered windows line three sides of the room at the height of the ceiling.  There is a large window looking out onto the lush forest that belongs to Casa Andesita.  This forested area is lush and thick and acts as a very effective privacy shield.  There are rows of built-in shelving and steps lead down to the walk-in closet for additional storage.  The closet has floor-to-ceiling shelving as well as a large area for hanging clothing.  The entrance door opens to the office.  This part of the house has hand-laid hardwood flooring and walls.

The master bedroom has windows directly under the high ceilings to let in natural light.

The windows give an impression of living in the natural world which surrounds Casa Andesita.

Coatimundis, Agoutis, Toucans, Toucanettes, Parrots, Mot Mots, hundreds of Hummingbirds and Tropical Foxes are a few of the frequent visitors easily visible from the master bedroom windows.

Privacy is not at issue since the master bedroom looks out on the private forest and hillside that form a buffer between Casa Andesita and the next property.

The topography and the forestation prevents views of this side of the house from adjacent properties.

Currently a young, well-educated family is renting Casa Andesita.

They have indicated an interest in staying on as tenants, if it were agreeable to the new owners.

The hardwood walls are all artisan-made.

This type of Costa Rican tropical hardwood is now difficult to obtain anywhere in the world.

Due to its rarity and cost, it is no longer used as a building material.

Currently, it is used for decorative bowls and exclusive pieces of furniture.

Casa Andesita is built to take advantage of all possible conservation methods.

The enclosed gutter on the left of this photograph runs along the wall.

This effectively transports rain runoff from the roof, depositing it in the orchard and garden on the other side of the house, where it is needed.

Barrels store excess water for later use.
