Item #A420 / $620.
Native American
Hand-Sewn and Embroidered Mitts
These mittens are antique Native American, maker unknown. They measure 12inches long and 6inches wide at the cuff. The thumb is 2 and 3/4inches by 2 and 1/2inches. The fringe is along the outside of the cuffs, 6 and 1/2 inches of the glove. The embroidery is in silken thread (commonly used in the 1800's). The motif is floral with four 5-pointed stars adorning the base of the design. The lining is red cotton shirt/dress material with tiny blue flowers and dots - a vintage pattern that matches the antique nature of the mittens. There is only one area of damage and it is slight. 2 inches of the green border on the inside of the right mitten has worn away. The leather is supple and sturdy. A gorgeous example of rare antique textile work. Hand Sewn and Embroidered Mittens / Item #A420 / $620.
