Item #R34 / $1,500.
Stevens Hunter's Pet Pocket Rifle #34
About This Historic Firearm:
This model Stevens rifle was a favorite of Martha Jane Cannary Burke - more commonly known as Calamity Jane.
The Hunter's Pet No. 34 came into production in 1872. It is a low production piece. The total number made is estimated at only 4,000 - a very low number which counts all the numerous calibers, from 22 short rimfire to 44-40 centerfire and barrel lengths from 18 to 24 inches. This rifle is a 32 rimfire with an 18" part round, part octagonal barrel. The piece is all original, from the walnut grips to the factory-nickled detachable shoulder stock.
The Stevens 34 is a single shot marksman's rifle with an adjustable fold-up rear sight and a delicate round front sight. The rifle sports a gorgeous age-appropriate wear and patina and the action is tight. The earlier models are stamped as this one is: J STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS MASS PAT SEPT.6.1884 in a single line.
This is a beautiful piece of Old West history with tight action, unusual looks and a wonderful pedigree.
