Walter Gann "Tread of the Longhorns" Signed/1st Edition Item #B105 / $250.
About This Book:
Foreword to Tread of the Longhorns "Nobody but Walter Gann could have written this book. Texas born, he was astride a bronco, riding with his father on a cattle drive, at the age of five. Before he was ten, he was a good cowhand in the making. By the time he was fifteen he could "ride 'em slick" when the bucker went sunfishing. He punched cows on the Concho and the Pecos. In the summers of 1908 and 1909 he worked the Yellowstone and the Powder rivers in Montana and he handled cattle for himself and others in Western Kansas. If all that experience does not entitle Gann to know cows and write about them, nothing could. He looks and talks like a cowman. It is bred in his bone. What is more to the point, he writes like one. He brings back to us vividly the dust of the drag drive and the winds of the plains, the fretting of cattle, and all the unforgettable memories of a period that has gone forever." -- William MacLeod Raine.
