Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine:

Serial Number 162xxx.  The year of manufacture is 1884.

This is a Winchester 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine -44 RF.  The brass receiver and all parts function well.  The barrel shows uniform patina throughout.  The stock and forearm are un-checkered walnut.  It has a brass crescent butt plate with trap door; though the cleaning accessories are not present.  The rifle features the original and proper tip-up carbine rear sight with single blade front sight.  The bore has strong rifling easily apparent without any sign of corrosion.

The Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine was the first of a long line of successful Winchester repeaters.  Only one caliber was offered in this model-- the .44 Henry Rimfire.  No other gun in history caught the public fancy in the days of its use or has been as popular as this first Winchester.  This model appeared at the beginnings of Westward expansion; the "Yellow-Boy" was there when frontier history was being made.
